The daguerrotype photographic process was developped in the period between 1835 and 1839 and was very popular from 1850 on. This picture shows a hairy pubic triangle and a hairy vulva, the labia, too, are visible. The picture's structure reminds of Courbets painting "The Origin of the World" – even here the woman's body is depicted without head, arms and lower legs, the woman remaining anonymous. Maybe Courbet was inspired by similar photos or he even used them as reference for his famous realistic painting.
