Definition
The female ejaculation is colloquially also known as squirting or gushing and is the expulsion of fluid which might happen during or before an orgasm. [1] [2] [3]
Statistics
Around a third of all women are familiar with this phenomenon. Among lesbians this amount rises to around 50%, which might be due to a more precise observation during sex. [1] [3]
Research
Female ejaculation seems to be connected with the female prostate [PROSTATE]. Studies have shown consistently that it contains a large quantity of prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), similar to the fluid from the male prostate. [3] [4] [5] By the same token, in ultrasonography a certain release of the urinary bladder was registered. [1] The amount of ejaculate varies from one teaspoon to one teacup. [3]
The female ejaculation also varies according to the individual sexual influence, the pelvic floor and its contractions during climax and the form of the prostate. In some cases glandular secretion seems to be ejaculated, in others the contraction of the pelvic muscles seems to be so strong that any fluids are "squeezed out" of the pelvis. Women, who regularly "squirt", that is, ejaculate a large quantity of fluids, confirm that their orgasm is accompanied by a fair amount of ejaculate. The penis might also be pressed out of the female pelvis during overly strong contractions which leads to the interruption of intercourse. [2] [3] [5] [6]
Culture
While the female ejaculation is a familiar topic in Asian culture, the knowledge thereof only slowly sinks in the Western world. [1] [2] [6]
The medical question whether the female ejaculate is a uric or a prostate secretion has interesting consequences. In Great Britain, porn movies of the category "squirting" were banned because it reminded too much of urophilia, that is, the sexual preference for urine (maybe connected to urodipsia, the drinking of urine) and was thus considered very obscene. However, since pornography is based on a visual medium and the female ejaculation is the only visual proof for a female orgasm, this ban could be regarded a wholesale censorship of female sexual pleasure in explicit media. Innumerous women have criticized this approach but without success. The only remaining hope is that censors take women seriously since the female ejaculation is not a form of incontinence but a natural phenomenon of female orgasm. [1] [7] [8]
