The installation consists of 36 images of vulvas: photos, drawings of prehistorical vulva paintings and engravings as well as texts about the vulva. In these texts the vulva should learn who or what it is or what it should be. Schneemann explores the history of the vulva and the relating opinions pronounced by scientists (such as Freud or Lacan). The vulva has to understand that it is subject to numerous prejudices and that, for example, from an pure biological point of view it is just an "amalgame of proteins and hormones"[1]. The vulva learns that it only is able to experience clitoral orgasms and gets to know which symbols are used by feminists for describing it. The ironic analysis shows the viewers that the vulva still is not perceived as a consistent unique being, confronted with prejudices and attributions it is still in search of its destiny.
